“Unbelievable value, great staff and great location”

Finding quality accommodation in a massive city like Chengdu usually means compromising on price or location. However, during my recent trip to film the Geely EX2 review, I stumbled upon a surprising find: the Ni Hao Hotel in Chengdu Shuangliu.

For less than $40 AUD per night, I wasn’t expecting much more than a clean bed. What I got was a tech-forward, convenient, and incredibly hospitable experience that proves you don’t need to spend big to stay well in China.

Surprisingly Spacious Stays

During my visit, I stayed in a single room with a king-sized bed, which was fantastic, but they also have double rooms available if you’re travelling with a mate or partner.

What really stood out was the size, the rooms are surprisingly very spacious. For those worried about international standards, every room features a Western-style toilet and a completely separate shower, so you aren’t dealing with a cramped “wet room” setup common in some budget hotels.

Unexpected Perks for Travellers:

  • The $4 Buffet: If your booking doesn’t already include it, you can opt-in for a good quality buffet-style breakfast for just $4 AUD.
  • Free Laundry: This was very handy. They offer free washers and dryers for guests, and they even provide the detergent! For someone on a long filming trip, this is a massive win.
  • The Food Robot: This was easily the highlight of the stay. When you order food delivery, a dedicated delivery robot navigates the lift and hallways to bring the order directly to your door.
  • Fresh Air & Comfort: The room was spotless and featured a window that actually opened for fresh air. Like most quality Chinese hotels, they provide two bottles of spring water daily, plus a choice of different pillows.

Location and Connectivity

The hotel is surrounded by a vibrant neighbourhood full of convenience stores for your basics and plenty of tasty local dining options right on the doorstep.

  • Tianfu Square: A DiDi (China’s answer to Uber) to the city centre typically costs between $10-15 AUD, depending on the time of day and traffic in a premium vehicle with extra legroom.
  • Free Parking: Parking is completely free for guests, which is a rare find in such a busy area.
  • Connectivity: The free Wi-Fi was reliable, essential for uploading clips and staying on top of work.

The Verdict: Would I stay again?

100%. It’s rare to find a hotel that balances price, cleanliness, and modern tech features so well. If you’re a budget-conscious traveller or a digital nomad looking for a solid base in Chengdu, the Ni Hao Hotel Shuangliu is a brilliant option. Ps Ni Hao in Chinese means hello, and they sure do make you feel welcome!
